Nuages

Nuages is one of the most famous compositions by Django Reinhardt and one of the defining pieces of the Manouche Jazz repertoire. Django composed the tune in 1940, during the German occupation of France. The title means "Clouds" in French.

Django first recorded Nuages on 1 October 1940, but he was not satisfied with the result and the recording remained unreleased at the time. A new version was recorded in Paris on 13 December 1940, featuring Hubert Rostaing on clarinet and a richer arrangement. This became the celebrated version that brought the composition widespread popularity.
