David a Goliáš

David a Goliáš ("David and Goliath") is a Czech swing song from 1937, with music by Jaroslav Ježek and lyrics by Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich. It was written for the Liberated Theatre production Těžká Barbora and humorously retells the famous biblical story of the small David confronting the much stronger Goliath.

Django Reinhardt did not record David a Goliáš. The song belongs to the world of Czech theatre and has no direct historical connection with Django or the original Quintette du Hot Club de France. Ježek's music, however, was strongly influenced by jazz and swing, allowing the composition to work remarkably well in an acoustic swing or Manouche Jazz arrangement.
